New police trailer monitors vehicle speeds

DANVILLE - The borough police department has a new tool to help deter speeding.

An on-site 400 speed trailer has been set up at Memorial Park, along Bloom Street, to monitor drivers' speeds.

The trailer will be set up at various locations in the borough.

The police department received the $12,000 unit about two weeks ago, according to Police Chief Eric Gill.

It was purchased with a Community Revitalization Grant through the office of state Sen. John Gordner.

"It can help prevent accidents, keep children and road workers safe and control traffic," Gill said.

The trailer also has a scroll that can be used to post messages about detours, closed roads or other announcements.

Gill expects Gordner to come to Danville sometime later to see the trailer.

"To give us $12,000 for it was phenomenal," Gill said.

Lewisburg's proposed 2012-13 budget stands at $28.6 million, with no less but also no more money coming from Harrisburg. "Even a neutral budget is problematic," DiRocco said.
