Online ticketing available for Warrior Run High School musical

TURBOTVILLE — While “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” takes place in the mid-1800s, the Warrior Run High School musical is trying a new tech-savvy approach to marketing.

Tickets for the production, which runs March 14-16, are available online for the first time, said Kevin Myers, director of the musical and a music teacher at the school.

“We’ve wanted to do it for years, and this just seemed like the right time,” he said.

Online sales have been strong, with about 600 tickets being sold so far for the three nights, Myers said.

Another new feature will be a presentation by an Advanced Placement history student, describing the historical context of the play, Myers said.

“He’ll be describing life in 1850s Missouri,” he said. “The student is using this as his AP project.”

It’s just another way to get as many students involved in the production as possible, Myers said.

“We want to include everyone we can,” he said. “This is a school project, and we want everyone to be involved.”

In addition to the 72-member cast, there is a backstage crew and AP art students helped create the scenery. A group of choir parents will sell refreshments before the shows.

The inclusion of each group highlights how important arts education and experiences are to young people, Myers said. “An art education is a key component of a growing child,” he said.

Being involved in the production of “Tom Sawyer,” which highlights the famous young mischief-maker’s greatest tales, teaches students not only about art and performance, but important life skills, Myers said.

“It teaches them teamwork ... and they get to have fun doing it,” he said.
