WATSONTOWN — One area school put a unique twist on its annual 100th day of school celebration, inviting people to come and sign in at the school Wednesday as it attempted to collect 100 signatures.
Twenty-five participating students from kindergarten through sixth grade at the Watsontown Christian Academy invited the public to visit as part of the elementary grades’ celebration of 100 days of school, according to Sharon Steele, a parent volunteer at the school.
“There is a big easel where they can sign their name and write who invited them,” she said. “They say hello to whoever invited them, or they can just come and sign in, then leave.”
With school safety on everyone’s mind, the school, at 1225 Eighth Street Drive, had several measures in place to make sure students were safe, Steele said.
“You have to check in with someone at the door,” she said.
The signatures were numbered to track the visitors, which turned out to be 46.
The signature collection was just one of the activities Watsontown Christian held to celebrate the milestone 100th day of school, Steele said. The Queen of Zeroes led a program with trivia and questions involving zeroes and other increments of 10, stations with activities featuring zeroes and 10s was set up and the school recognized students who had perfect attendance for the first 100 days of school.
It was all to celebrate what Steele said was a fun and important day for students.
“It’s a milestone you pass during the year,” she said.
