SUNBURY — Northumberland County Conservation District (NCCD) will host an informational session on PENNVEST’s Nutrient Credit Trading program at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Dave Unger Environmental Education Center, 441 Plum Creek Road, Sunbury. The session is open to anyone with an interest in the Nutrient Credit Trading program.
The Pennsylvania Investment Authority (PENNVEST) is hosting auctions for the sale and purchase of nutrient credits in the Susquehanna and Potomac watersheds to facilitate compliance with Chesapeake Bay requirements. This nutrient credit trading program provides a cost-effective means for regulated public and private waste water treatment plants and other parties to purchase or sell credits to meet their nitrogen and phosphorus discharge limits for the compliance year or to generate revenues through the sale of credits. This session will answer your questions regarding nutrient credit trading, including what it is; how it benefits agriculture, industry, communities, and private individuals; how it improves water quality; and how it’s facilitated through the auction process hosted by PENNVEST.
To register for this meeting, call the Northumberland County Conservation District at 495-4665 by Feb. 15. Registration is limited to 50 people due to space restrictions.
