LEWISBURG – The Susquehanna Valley Chorale performs Karl Jenkins’ Stabat Mater, its 2013 “Sorrows and Joys Spring Concert,” Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Sunbury.
The concert brings to life the medieval Roman Catholic prayers reflecting on the suffering of Mary, Jesus Christ’s mother, during the crucifixion. Written in 2008, the work captures a full range of Mary’s emotions from despair to reflection and hope.
Joining the chorale will be a 45-piece orchestra plus special guest soloist, Elizabeth Duhr-Ramirez. In addition, 45 minutes before each performance, Gary Boerckel will give a talk. Boerckel is a concert pianist, conductor, lecturer, WVIA radio host and chairman of the music department at Lycoming College.
Zion Lutheran Church is at Fifth and Market streets in Sunbury.
