Retired police chief seeking Milton area district judge post

NORTHUMBERLAND — Retired chief of police Larry Redington has announced his candidacy for  Magisterial District Judge for the upper Northumberland County district. A 34-year resident of the Magisterial District, Redington resides in Point Township, is married to Barbara Redington, has three daughters and one granddaughter.

The upper Northumberland County district includes the boroughs of Milton, Watsontown, McEwensville and Turbotville, as well as Delaware, Point, West and East Chillisquaque, Turbot and Lewis townships.

Redington notes that the judgship of the “People’s Court,” the Magisterial District Court in upper Northumberland County, has a long and successful tradition of electing a person from the law enforcement community to this position. If elected, Redington intends to provide full time attention to the duties of district judge. The Pennsylvania Minor Judiciary Board and the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts has certified him to serve as Magisterial District Judge.

Redington retired as chief of police with more than 30 years of achievement in law enforcement and commitment to community service.

He states that “ our communities deserve and put their faith in the fact that our district judges will make fair decisions based upon open minded and impartial consideration of the facts and the law. Magisterial District Judges must be experienced in the law, be independent, and be free from external influences. This standard protects the integrity of the courts, as well as the interests of the community.”

Redington served as chief of police for Northumberland Borough until retirement from full time law enforcement, which includes 15 years with the Point Township Police Department. During his career, he conducted numerous criminal investigations, prepared arrest and search warrants, testified in criminal and civil proceedings and conducted drug law investigations. Redington received designation as a Special County Detective for Northumberland County for major crime investigation and evidence processing. He has certification as a police trainer in firearms and the use of force.

Redington was honored to have received recognition by the Northumberland Veterans of Foreign Wars Post for maintaining, preserving and protecting the lawful rights of all citizens and by the Northumberland Joint Veterans Committee for service to area veterans. Redington received a certificate of recognition of commitment by Leadership Susquehanna Valley to the advancement of Northumberland, Union and Snyder counties. He also possesses certification by Susquehanna Valley Women in Transition in Domestic Violence Investigation.

His affiliations include serving as church council president at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Shamokin Dam and memberships with the Susquehanna Valley Lodge 52 of the Fraternal Order of Police, Northumberland Gun Club, National Rifle Association and the Masonic Lodge 404 in Northumberland.
