SUNBURY — The 31st annual auction to benefit the Degenstein Community Library will take place Saturday with 250 silent-auction items and another 50 items being sold in a live auction.
Last year’s event raised $11,000 for the library, the most ever, according to Joann Long, who serves with Lenore Askew as co-chairwomen of the Friends of the Degenstein Community Library Auction Committee.
“We’d like to match or do better this year,” Long said. “We always set our goals high.”
Some of the highlighted auction items include five shares of Northumberland Bank stock, a special signature woman’s watch by John Dagle Jewelers, four 2013 Bucknell University football season tickets and a 37-inch LED Westinghouse television.
The theme of this year’s auction is “Spring Fling.”
All funds are donated back to the library, Long said.
“Last year friends group donated $20,500 to the library for all projects throughout the year,” Long said.
The library has been investing in large-print books and audio books, in addition to bolstering the collection of children’s books, she said. In addition, more and more people are using the library for Internet access.
Money from the auction will be used to purchase computers, books, audio books, periodicals, educational programs and DVD’s, Long said.
The Friends group was organized in 1996 and has donated more than $200,000 to the library since that time.
Those who want to view some of the items that will be auctioned off can visit online at: www.degensteinlibrary.org.
