SHAMOKIN DAM — About 95 people attended Suncom Industries’ recent annual board of directors’ dinner meeting in Tedd’s on the Hill.
Staff, board members, representatives from work affiliations and other guests gathered to celebrate 46 years of services to people with disabilities. State Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver was the guest speaker and talked of her many years of association with Suncom and her continued dedication and efforts to help people with disabilities.
She installed the corporation’s officerst: Vice Chairman Al Reeve, Treasurer Eric McDowell and Secretary Marty Gates. Chairman Dennis Curtin was unable to attend.
Suncom also recognized several organizations that have been instrumental in the support of its programs. The City of Sunbury, represented by Mayor David Persing, and the Burlington Coat Factory received Employer Recognition Awards for helping to create community employment for people with disabilities. Sara Catherman received Suncom’s Supported Employee Award. She works at the Burlington Coat store in the Lycoming Mall.
Kydex LLC representatives Becky Gallup and Tom Kapelewski received a Business Partnership Award for providing work training opportunities to Suncom’s workshop facility in Bloomsburg.
Special recognition also was given to Joseph Youshock and Michael Munroe. Youshock retired as board member, CEO and program committee chairman after many years of service. Munroe, manager of the PPL Montour Plant, has been an avid supporter of Suncom’s programs, both professionally and personally.
The Bloomsburg Rotary Club, represented by Irvin Wright and MaryBeth Shade, made a significant donation, which will be used for the programs at the Bloomsburg facility.
Suncom acknowledged employees for their continued service and longevity as they celebrated 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of employment.
Suncom Industries provides services to more than 480 people with disabilities. The agency is a member of the Danville and Greater Susquehanna Valley United Ways.
