SELINSGROVE — The Selinsgrove Rotary Club partnered with the Selinsgrove Area High School Forensics Team advised by teachers Cristi Beeler and Brittany Bunting-Specht, to host a 4-Way Test Speech Contest on Feb. 20 at the Selinsgrove Area High School. The Rotary 4-Way Test asks four questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Students were challenged to apply the 4-Way Test to real life situations. Junior, Emily Spiegel earned first place by addressing the validity of first impressions while sophomore, Anne Coyne earned second place for her speech concerning the ethics of factory farming. The Rotary Club awarded monetary prizes to both students and Spiegel will advance to the regional competition in March.
