HUMMELS WHARF — A Turkey Hill convenience store-gas station is slated to move into the former site of the Golden Corral Restaurant on the Strip.
Company representatives are scheduled to attend a Feb. 25 Monroe Township Planning Board meeting to present sketch plans for the Routes 11-15 and Park Road location.
The site has been vacant for more than two years.
“The attraction is based on traffic counts,” said George Albert Jr., president of G&Albert Consultants of Pittston. “It’s a promising location for Turkey Hill.”
An estimated 39,000 vehicles travel daily along Routes 11-15 through Selinsgrove.
Albert said the company will provide gasoline service to passenger vehicles only, though there will have to be some road work to improve access from Park Road.
The Monroe Township Board of Supervisors has already changed the neighborhood-commercial zone to allow for a convenience store with gas dispensing services at the site.
Turkey Hill Mini Market is based in Lancaster and has more than 270 store locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana and continues to add locations.
A separate plan for a drive-through convenience store on the Old Trail in Hummels Wharf is also moving forward as the township supervisors approved retail use with conditions on the property located within a village zone.
The supervisors initially balked at the idea, but several area residents signed a petition in support of Williamsport businessman Greg Cendoma’s plan.
Cendoma operates two similar style stores offering staples, including milk, bread and sandwiches in Williamsport and Hughesville
