SELINSGROVE — Nearly 80 people have signed up for tonight’s seminar on financial oversight and responsibilities of nonprofit and volunteer organizations sponsored by Leadership Susquehanna Valley.
Titled “Who is Watching the Money?” the seminar will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Econo Lodge Inn and Suites in Shamokin Dam and feature Patricia Mogan of the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations and accountant Aaron Grumbling providing volunteer board members money management and oversight tips.
Joe Kantz, president of Leadership Susquehanna Valley, said the topic has attracted many members of local nonprofit boards and organizations, including municipal authorities, churches and fire companies, concerned with protecting public assets.
“People are reading about these embezzlements and starting to realize that anyone serving on a board needs to know what to look for so people can’t steal from the group,” said Kantz, chairman of the Snyder County Board of Commissioners. “I’ve signed up.”
The response has been so good that the number of seats was expanded from 50. Kantz said up to 125 seats are available and tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling Jennifer Daddario at 743-4100.
Tickets are $20 per person or $15 per person attending with three or more members of the same organization. The LSV alumni rate is $10 per person.
Leadership Susquehanna Valley is a charitable corporation providing programs to enhance effective community and organizational leadership.
