MILTON — Each year, Meadowbrook Christian School’s preschool classes participate in a Christmas service project. This project helps to teach the children about the joy of giving and also provides a blessing for an area organization. This year Meadowbrook chose to support Kelsey’s Dream, a local non-profit founded by Kylie Kuhns in memory of her sister, Kelsey, who passed way in 2005 at the age of 12 from complications associated with ALL Leukemia.
Kelsey’s Dream seeks to “make life a little brighter for children with cancer and children in need through community involvement,” and Kylie has added programs to the non-profit which relate to Kelsey. One such program is the Snack Pack Program, which is the area Meadowbrook’s preschool chose to participate in. Often children undergoing treatment for cancer are on steroids, which make them very hungry, and they are away from home for long periods of time for treatment. The Snack Pack Program provides these children with many snacks from which they can choose and brings smiles to their faces.
Meadowbrook students in nursery school, K4, and K5 were encouraged during the month of December to find ways to earn or raise money though doing small chores or projects around the house or through working together with their families. They were to then use the money they earned to help purchase snacks for the Snack Pack Program. Through their hard work, the students were pleased to present Kelsey’s Dream with 10 grocery bags and several large boxes full of snacks to help them make life a little brighter for other children in our community who are in need.
