ELYSBURG — About 1,100 people are expected to attend the annual job fair for Knoebels Amusement Resort, which has 400 to 600 positions to fill, according to spokesman Joe Muscato.
Until about three years ago, the fair had about 450 attendees each year, he said. After the recession hit, attendance skyrocketed.
“Then we had 1,300 people, and it’s been sustaining there,” he said. “I just think that a lot of people are looking for work or looking to supplement their income.”
The job fair is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Elysburg firehall, 1 E. Mill St. Representatives from each of the park’s departments will meet with prospective employees, Muscato said.
“Some people don’t know what opportunities there are,” he said. “The managers of each department are there, and you can go and talk to them and ask, ‘What does working at your department entail?’”
The fair attracts a variety of individuals, from teenagers to senior citizens, Muscato said.
“We get all different kinds of people, from kids looking for a (summer job) to adults looking to supplement their money from a full-time job. Some of it is also senior citizens looking for some income but also something to do to keep themselves active. It runs the whole gamut,” he said.
Preparations for the 2013 season at the park also are under way, Muscato said. The StratosFear, a 148-foot drop tower ride, is being assembled in Ohio and should be ready when the park opens for the season April 27.
“We’re preparing on our end to pour concrete for the base,” he said. “It should be ready opening day, barring weather complications.”
Also coming to the park for the 2013 season is the Crazy Submarine, a family ride similar to the park’s Rockin’ Tug. The Crazy Submarine will be placed near the Rockin’ Tug, Muscato said.
