WATSONTOWN — Life Scout, Konnor Sidler, a member of Boy Scout Troop 610 of Watsontown, is one step closer to the obtaining his Eagle Scout award by finishing his Eagle Scout project. Konnor’s project began with the planning process over a year and a half ago and on Nov. 24 the construction had been completed. Konnor’s two mentors for his Eagle Scout project were the late Carl Yoder Jr. and Robert Yoder Sr.
Konnor’s plan included constructing storage to the existing concession stand at the Warrior Run High School’s soccer field. The plan was to double the stand in size, adding a new addition for storage. The plans called for removing the old roof, framing the addition, painting the exterior of the addition and replacing the old roof with a new roof that would adhere the old and new buildings as one. With the assistance of volunteers from the community, other scouts, Eagle Scouts and his family, Konnor was able to complete the construction in one weekend.
Funding for the project came from Konnor reaching out to the community and multiple businesses and agencies donating to the project. The following businesses have donated to the Eagle Scout project: Watsontown American Legion Post 323, C & C Housing, Zion Lutheran Church, William F. Brooks Funeral Home, Frey’s Disposal, Warrior Run High School Girls Soccer Parent Booster Club, Warrior Run High School Boys Soccer Parent Booster Club, Kurtz Kawasaki, Susquehanna Fire Extinguisher Company, Watsontown Lion’s Club, Watson Excavating, Warrior Run Petcare Center, Warrior Run Woman’s Club, Re/Max West Branch Realty, Dale Chomas, DMD, Buzz’s Pizza & Subs, Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, and Bee-Cee Hardware,
The benefits to the community from this project will be seen for many years to come. Both the high school girls’ and boys’ soccer parent booster clubs currently use the concession stand during the fall and spring seasons to raise money for the teams. While plans are in the works for a new stadium to be built in the future at the soccer fields, Konnor has requested and planned for the concession stand be moved to benefit another sport.
Konnor’s Board of Review is scheduled for Dec. 12, where if he passes, he will officially earn the Eagle Scout award.
