LEWISBURG — The Union County Conservation District is taking orders for tree seedlings for your spring planting. The following varieties are available: Fraser Fir, Colorado Blue Spruce, White Oak, Sawtooth Oak, Red Bud, Black Cherry, and Witch Hazel.
Prices for the Evergreens, Fraser Fir and Colorado Blue Spruce, are $13 per bundle of 25 seedlings. The Deciduous trees are $10 per bundle of 10 seedlings.
Frasier Fir and Colorado Blue Spruce trees are often used as Christmas trees or as windbreaks. White and Sawtooth oak acorns are excellent sources of food for wildlife. Red Bud trees are known for their beautiful reddish-purple buds. Black Cherry provides food for many small animals and their lumber has been prized since colonial times. Witch Hazel is a shrub, growing to heights of 10-25 feet tall. Used as an ornamental due to their rich yellow flowers.
Orders will be accepted until April 1. Seedlings should be available for pickup April 10 and 11. For more information call 524-3860 or stop at the District Office on North 15th Street, Lewisburg.
