McALISTERVILLE — An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held for Cody M. Shadel on Oct. 14, at the Browns United Methodist Church, McAlisterville, with the attendance of many family, friends, mentors, and community representatives.
His career in scouting began in the second grade at the age of 8, when he joined Pack 65 Cub Scouts, McAlisterville, starting out as a Bobcat, then Wolf, Bear and Webelos. While a Webelo, he earned his God and Country Badge. He then went into Troop 65, McAlisterville, as a Boy Scout where he earned a total of 32 merit badges. While in Boy Scouts he helped in various community organizations, such Angel Food Ministries, and Lost Creek Trout Club, to earn his Star and Life Badge. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow — Monaken Lodge at the age of 14, where he participated in many outings and functions.
His Eagle Scout Project began in 2011 and was completed in 2012. His project consisted of replacing and building two new church signs which expanded to include all the churches of the McAlisterville area. The signs were then erected at each end of Fayette Township, along Route 35.
During his career in scouting, he attended Seven Mountains Scout Camp, Klondike Derby, Potter County fishing trips, many hiking, backpacking and biking trips, and went to Philmont, N.M. His time in Scouting has taught him many survival skills not only in nature but in life too. He is now serving as assistant scout master for Troop 65.
Cody is a senior at East Juniata High School. His hobbies aside from scouting are soccer, track, weight lifting, youth group, guitar, hunting and fishing. He wishes to thank all his Scout masters, merit badge counselors, pastors, and churches, Gilson Signs, Lester Stuck Building Supplies, Shade-Chris Excavating, and his fellow Scouts, for supporting and helping him to complete and earn the Eagle Scout Honor.
