WILLIAMSPORT — The Junior League of Williamsport is asking for the community’s assistance in gathering new and gently used prom dresses to help make dreams come true for young women. Dresses of all sizes are being collecting through Feb. 25 at the following locations: Aquarius Pool and Patio, 170 Pine St., Williamsport; FastSigns, 535 E. Third St., Williamsport; Norge Village Dry Cleaning, 20 Stewart Alley, Montoursville; Faxon Cleaners, 1313 Washington Blvd., Williamsport; Reedy’s Dry Cleaning, 930 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore; Twin Hills Health Center, 2796 Lycoming Mall Drive, Muncy; Warrior Run High School, 4800 Susquehanna Trail, Turbotville, and Williamsport Area High School, 2990 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.
The anticipation of high school’s biggest social event, Prom, is accompanied by the search for the perfect dress. However, many young ladies in today’s economy may be unable to afford a new gown and might miss out on the excitement and confidence boost that wearing a beautiful prom gown can provide. This is why the Junior League is asking for the community’s assistance in making its annual event a success.
At the event, girls from area high schools are able to purchase prom gowns and other accessories for a nominal fee of $10. When young ladies arrive at Cinderella’s Closet, their own personal “fairy godmother” will guide them through the dress selection process and escort them to a fitting room, with gowns in hand.
Proceeds from fundraisers the Junior League conducts throughout the year, such as the annual holiday auction, held in November, are used to make sure every girl will be able to find a beautiful dress.
A Little Black Dress Drive night will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Joint, 535 E. Third St. Those who donate a dress that evening will receive a gift certificate for a free appetizer to use on their next visit.
This year’s Cinderella’s Closet will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 23 at the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.
All donations are tax-deductible and tax receipts will be provided upon request. For more information, call 326-4673.
The Junior League of Williamsport is a nonprofit organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
