LEWISBURG — For over 40 years, the Lewisburg Arts Council has presented a festival celebrating the visual and performing arts known as the Lewisburg Arts Festival. The festival began as a week-long collection of events throughout Lewisburg and has grown into a two-week event bookended by the art show on Market Street on the last Saturday in April and Lewisburg Live! two weeks later. Starting in 2013, this two-week event will be called the Lewisburg Celebration of the Arts, happening this year from April 26 through May 11. The biggest component of the Celebration of the Arts will continue to be the Saturday event that is commonly known as the Lewisburg Arts Festival — which now has that official name.
Lewisburg Celebration of the Arts Chairperson Sara Kelley says, “Although the Lewisburg Arts Festival has been more than one day long for over 40 years, the community has always dubbed the last Saturday in April as ‘the Arts Festival’. We decided not to buck the trend and do the same.”
“I am really enthusiastic about the new inclusive name for our spring arts events. By naming the entire two weeks the Lewisburg Celebration of the Arts, we are able to emphasize the many additional events that are scheduled during that time and are separate from the art show on Market Street, which will now be the Lewisburg Arts Festival, as it has come to be known,” says Lewisburg Arts Council President Constance Timm.
Since 1968, the Lewisburg Arts Council has encouraged and advanced visual and performing arts in the Lewisburg area. The Lewisburg Arts Council is filling out the Lewisburg Celebration of the Arts schedule and will be announcing more information on its website and in local media as events are finalized.
