MILTON — There was a flurry of excitement at the Milton Children’s Center as students received bags full of presents from a local club.
As part of an ongoing community service project, members of the Milton Women’s Club visited the children and handed out the gifts. Included in the bags were hand-sewn scarves made by club members. Local businesses also donated toothbrushes, activity books and other small items.
Members of the club collect the items and craft more than 60 scarves and bags throughout the year.
“We enjoy giving back to the children in our community,” said Lorraine Miller, club committee chair.
Club member Joanne Seidel agreed. “The faces of the students when they open the bags...it just makes all the work worthwhile,” she said.
The Milton Children’s Center is operated by the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU) and administers two half-day Head Start and Early Intervention Preschool classes.
Head Start is a program for preschool children that promotes school readiness and emphasizes parents as their child’s first teacher. Early Intervention is an instructional program that supports families in their children’s development.
Both programs are available to 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds who are not yet enrolled in kindergarten.
For information about Head Start, or if you have concerns about your child, contact the CSIU at 523-1155, ext. 2229.
