MIFFLINBURG — The Herr Memorial Library and the Mifflinburg Elementary School are partnering up, once again, for the sixth annual Cartridges for Kids recycling/Earth Day program.
Beginning Thursday, March 14, kindergarten, first-, and second-grade classrooms at Mifflinburg Elementary School will have a container for students to fill with used inkjet and laser ink cartridges and small unwanted electronic devices. These items include cell phones, GPS devices, iPods, video games and consoles, digital cameras, laptops, PDAs (like Blackberries) and DVDs.
The containers will be collected on April 18. Library staff will count the number of usable items and the winning classroom in each grade will be announced on April 25. The winning classrooms will each receive a prize from the library.
The goal of this program is to teach the students about recycling, how to preserve our environment by keeping harmful items out of landfills and to raise funds to support children’s programming. Since the program first began, the library has received over $4,000 through the Cartridges for Kids program.
For more information on the Cartridges for Kids program visit the library at 500 Market St., Mifflinburg or call 966-0831. Items may also be dropped off at the library by members of the community; however, those items will not be considered part of the contest.
