DANVILLE — The Danville Ronald McDonald House is celebrating the 15th annual Pennsylvania Farm Bureau’s Food Check-Out Week with a special delivery ceremony Feb. 19.
Local members of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau will deliver food, household items and monetary donations to the house from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. A presentation ceremony will follow from 10 to 11 a.m. and will include speakers from the Farm Bureau and the house.
This year, the official statewide Food Check-Out Week Celebration runs Feb. 17-23.
The theme of the celebration is “Stretching Your Grocery Dollar with Healthy Nutritious Food.”
Farm bureau members from Montour, Northumberland, Union, Snyder, Bradford/Sullivan, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Columbia and Lycoming counties are conducting the drive.
Since 1999, the total amount of food, household products and monetary contributions donated to the house are valued at $239,099.
Food Check-Out Week, formerly called Food Check-Out Day, was established to communicate the affordability of food in America. The core message is that food is affordable, due in large part to America’s productive farmers and ranchers.
In its 32nd year, the Danville Ronald McDonald House is a 19-bedroom facility providing a home-away-from-home for parents and families of children hospitalized at area medical facilities for treating cancer and other serious illnesses.
