LEWISBURG — On Oct. 13, the Union Snyder Agency on Aging, Inc (U/SAA) held its first annual “Fall Fun Day” fundraising event at the U/SAA main office location at 116 N. Second St. in Lewisburg. The Union-Snyder Agency on Aging, Inc. is a non-profit organization that serves adults ages 60 and older who reside in either Union or Snyder county. Their mission is to ensure the rights of older adults to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives in their own homes and communities, to make informed decisions concerning their care, and to stay active and productive for as long as possible. They achieve their mission by offering a variety of services to seniors, including: senior centers, home-delivered meals, respite and personal care, long-term care management and service coordination, protective services, APPRISE benefits counseling, the Foster Grandparent Program, Prime Time Health, and Ombudsman services. While the elder population in our communities is consistently expanding, unfortunately the Union-Snyder Agency on Aging, Inc. has been flat-funded for several years, thus the purpose of the Fall Fun Day was to supplement their funding in order to increase the number of seniors they serve.

The weather was perfect for a Fall Fun Day that was packed with a variety of activities for all ages. Food was plentiful with choices of pizza from Mancini’s, wings and other snacks from Dynamic Wings, grilled items from the Beaver Springs Fire Company, and fresh popcorn or whoopee pies and many other items from U/SAA. There were several kids’ games with prizes and activities including a bounce house, craft making, face painting, and a balloon animal and hat maker. Everyone could take a chance to try to win baked goods at the cake wheel, try to increase their wallets with 50/50 tickets, have fun playing bingo, and many hopefuls purchased raffle tickets trying to win one of over 35 gift baskets that were donated to support the event.  Local health care providers were present to share valuable information about their services, vendors were ready to sell their wares, and U/SAA Prime Time Health staff provided free blood pressure screenings. In addition to all of this, there were free presentations providing helpful information about: “Discovering the Superhero in you; Making a Difference through FCP Partnerships” by First Community Foundation; Medicare information presented by U/SAA APPRISE staff; and a last will and testament and power of attorney presentation by Attorney James Malee.
