LEWISBURG — If you have that special child or grandchild that loves to read, it’s not too late to sponsor them and put them in the window of the Barnes and Noble at Bucknell next weekend as part of the fourth annual reading marathon to kick off the holiday season in Lewisburg. Maybe you’ve got a special passage or poem or favorite Christmas character you impersonate and would like to sit and read for a 15 minute time segment yourself as that character. The Donald L. Heiter Community Center is still accepting entries to participate in The “Rock ‘N Read” starting at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 as part of the “Late Night Shoppers” festivities in Lewisburg and continue until midnight and then resume Saturday morning Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. as part of the annual Victorian Holiday Parade in downtown Lewisburg on Saturday, Dec. 8, concluding at 5 p.m.
Sponsored readers will read a 15 minute passage from their favorite book or poetry while sitting in a rocking chair in the front window of the Barnes and Noble at Bucknell bookstore on Market Street in Lewisburg. Some of the special guest readers will include “The Grinch”, “Santa and Mrs. Claus” and “George Bailey” from “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Readers are encouraged to dress in a costume that supports their reading material.
Readers must be “sponsored” by securing a minimum pledge of $25 per 15 minute time slot as a donation to the Donald L. Heiter Community Center. Readers of all ages can request a time slot for their reading with their application and pledge form. Time slots are assigned on a first come, first served basis, according to Polly Doyle and Jane Amacher, coordinators of the event for the Heiter Center.
Application forms and information on the Rock ‘N Read are available at area schools, businesses and at the Donald L. Heiter Center Community Center located at 100 N. Fifth St. in Lewisburg. The deadline for readers to register and receive recognition on printed banners is Dec. 1.
