The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. This program is offered by the Department of Revenue and funded by the PA Lottery and slots gaming. The income limit is $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters. It is important to note this calculation includes one-half of your Social Security benefits, Supplemental Security Income and Railroad retirement benefits when calculating total household eligibility income. The maximum standard rebate is $650.
Homeowners must produce copies of receipted tax bills for the year being claimed. Cancelled checks alone are not acceptable. However, the Department will accept a tax bill with a copy of the cancelled check. Renters must have Form PA-1000 RC completed by their landlord to provide proof of the rent paid. Look for the brochure on the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program that can be downloaded from the web site.
