Union-Snyder Agency on Aging Sets appointments for Rebates

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. This program is offered by the Department of Revenue and funded by the PA Lottery and slots gaming. The income limit is $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters. It is important to note this calculation includes one-half of your Social Security benefits, Supplemental Security Income and Railroad retirement benefits when calculating total household eligibility income. The maximum standard rebate is $650.

Homeowners must produce copies of receipted tax bills for the year being claimed. Cancelled checks alone are not acceptable. However, the Department will accept a tax bill with a copy of the cancelled check. Renters must have Form PA-1000 RC completed by their landlord to provide proof of the rent paid. The deadline to apply for the 2012 program is June 30. Distribution of the Rebate benefit will begin the first week in July. You may check the status of your Property Tax/Rent Rebate Claim online through the Revenue e-Services center or by calling the automated toll-free number, (888) 728-2937. Be prepared to provide your Social Security number, the amount of rebate you’re expecting and your birth date. Wait 8-10 weeks from the date you mailed your claim to check its status. Appointments are being scheduled at Senior Centers in Beaver Springs, Lewisburg, Penns Creek, Selinsgrove and the West End. Consumers living in the New Columbia area will also have access to appointments at the New Columbia Civic Building.
