McCLURE — On Dec. 9, Sara Shambach, 14, of McClure, traveled to Pittsburgh Steelers indoor practice field to compete in the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Team Championship for 14-15 year old girls representing western PA and West Virginia. She earned fourth place.
For Sara to qualify for the team championship, she had to place first in both the local event held in State College and at the sectional event that was held in Indiana. After placing first at those two events, she then had to have one of the top four scores in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The day of the team championship competition, the Shambach family traveled to Heintz Field to see the Steelers vs. Chargers game. Sara got to be down on the Steelers field and participate in the halftime show. She had her name announced and where she was from on the big screen at the game. She also got to participate in a football throwing contest on the field.
