SELINSGROVE — Students are spreading holiday cheer on Susquehanna University’s campus with a variety of activities and fundraisers to benefit charities and those in need.
Operation Christmas Child
The Susquehanna Community donated 39 shoeboxes filled with small toys, personal care items, school supplies and other treats through the Office of Religious Life, on behalf of relief organization Samaritan’s Purse, which sends them to children in need around the world.
Meagan’s Box
Meagan’s Box works to provide new toys for the holiday season to struggling families. Members of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity collected toys to be delivered in the Selinsgrove area, concluding with a gift-wrapping party to prepare the items for delivery.
Holiday Food Drive
Susquehanna’s Center for Civic Engagement is encouraging students to donate any nonperishable food items they may have at the end of the semester for delivery to Haven Ministry, a homeless shelter in Sunbury.
Giving Tree
The Center for Civic Engagement is also sponsoring a Giving Tree decorated with cards outlining the Christmas wishes of children in the local community. Students, faculty and staff are picking cards and then granting the wishes by purchasing, wrapping and dropping off the desired gifts to the Office of Residence Life for delivery.
Toys for Tots
WQSU-FM, Susquehanna’s radio station, is organizing a collection of toys and monetary donations for Toys for Tots. Drop-off points for new, unwrapped toys will be located at the radio station, Mellon Lounge, Selinsgrove Hall and in the James W. Garrett Sports Complex through Dec. 10. WQSU has participated in the program since 2000. Last year, more than 4,550 children in the central Susquehanna Valley received toys through Toys for Tots.
