Free tax preparation help is available

The IRS is offering free tax preparation help this season. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is for people who make $51,000 or less annually and need assistance with their taxes. IRS-certified volunteers will provide basic tax return preparation and information. To find your nearest VITA location, visit http://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep, or call (800) 906-9887.

The Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program offers free help for all, with priority given to individuals who are 60 years of age and older. IRS-certified volunteers specialize in questions about pensions and retirement issues. To find TCE locations near you, go to http://www.aarp.org/money/taxes/aarp_taxaide/.

For those who wish to file Federal taxes online for free, I-CAN! E-File has partnered with TaxACT for the 2012 tax season, which means that I-CAN! now has no income, form, or state limitations. For more information or to file online with I-CAN!, visit http://www.icanefile.org.

n Bloomsburg University will be providing free tax help from Feb. 13 through April 11. Call 389-5234 for more information.

n Central Susquehanna Opportunities, Inc. in Northumberland County is offering free tax preparation help through VITA. For information, call 644-6575.

n VITA tax preparation is being offered at sites in Selinsgrove and Lewisburg. To get information and make appointments, call 374-0181.
