SUNBURY — The Northumberland County Conservation District (NCCD) held its annual reorganization meeting Jan. 3 at the District Office on Plum Creek Road, Sunbury. New Board member, Gary Truckenmiller, of Watsontown was sworn in by Department of Environmental Protection field representative, Bill Kahler. Dave Crowl, of Elysburg, and Leon Wertz, of Danville, were re-elected to their positions as chairman and vice-chairman, respectively.
The NCCD is the local contact for natural resource issues in Northumberland County. Programs include erosion and sedimentation control, dam safety and waterway management, environmental education, nutrient management, dirt and gravel roads, agricultural land preservation, and watershed protection. It is a subdivision of state government and one of 66 Conservation Districts throughout the state of Pennsylvania.
NCCD meetings are held the first Thursday of every month at 12:30 p.m. during the months of December through March and 7 p.m. during the months of April through November.
