MIDDLEBURG — For many years the members of the Middleburg Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi have adopted the Toys For Tots Program as their Christmas service project. Member Penny Billheim introduced the idea and each year since the group has decided to share the spirit of the season by contributing gifts to the U.S. Marine Corp. Toys for Tots Program.
Locally, the Toys for Tots Program helps children in a five county area including Snyder, Union, Northumberland, Montour and Columbia. All toys stay in this area. The Program distributes toys to boys and girls from newborn to age 18. Each year the Toys for Tots Program grows with more toys given to more children. Due to generous donations last season, the Toys for Tots Program was able to make a difference by distributing toys to 4,559 children. Each child received toys which included games, books, and a bag of stocking stuffer toys. This year the Middleburg Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi hopes to make 2012 the most successful campaign. The members of the Middleburg Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi donated 351 toys this year.
