Blanche M. Fought, 87, Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE €" Blanche M. Fought, 87, of Route 204, passed away at 4:20 a.m. Friday March 19, 2010 at her home.

She was born in Ettrick, Va., on March 12, 1923, a daughter of the late John and Essie (Bridgewater) Crowder. On Jan. 19, 1950 she married Frank Richard Fought, who preceded her in death on April 8, 1971.

Blanche was a graduate of Carson High School, Petersburg, Va., where she was class salutatorian. She was very proud to be the first person in her family to graduate from high school.

She began her employment with Bell Telephone as an operator. She was employed at numerous Bell locations in Pennsylvania. She was later employed as a secretary for B.E. Reichenbach, Selinsgrove. She later worked at the Iron Skillet, in Shamokin Dam, Susquehanna University and the Selinsgrove Center.

Blanche was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Selinsgrove.

She enjoyed golfing, fishing, bicycling on the Isle of Que, driving automobiles and riding motorcycles.

She volunteered at the Manor at Penn Village, St. Pius X Church and the Selinsgrove Center. She also enjoyed the arts and wine making. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose passion was her family.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Leigh R. Kramer, of Centre Hall, and Valli D. and her husband Jay Wagner, of Selinsgrove; two granddaughters and their spouses, Rachelle and Troy Sprenkle, of Sunbury and Jessica and William Moyer, of Selinsgrove; four great-grandchildren, Logan, Colby and Kaiden Sprenkle and Nora Mae Moyer. Also surviving is one sister, Julia Miles, of West Va., a sister-in-law, Regina Willis, of Hughesville, numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Mary Novak Stein and Aileen Ryan, Charlotte McCaddin, and Susan Sprenkel, whom she considered family.

She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, John Mark Bolus and Robert Allen Kramer; two brothers, John and Richard Crowder and six sisters, Rachel Lewis, Vivian Novak, Lilly Gibbs, Jean Wilson, Barbara Hancock and Mary Crowder.

Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 116 Fairview Drive, Selinsgrove, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 with Rev. Ted Keating as celebrant.
