MILTON -- Diane Inez (Schifflin) Hampton, 80, of Songbird Lane, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at her home.

She was born March 28, 1929, in Evanston, Ill., a daughter of the late Arthur and Elisabeth (Harder) Schifflin. She was married for 58 years to John C. "Jack" Hampton Jr., who preceded her in death on May 28, 2009.

Diane was a 1946 graduate of West High School in Minneapolis, Minn., and a 1951 graduate of Purdue University. In high school, she swam in the Aqua Follies as an Aqua Belle.

She was an aide and substitute teacher at the Milton Junior High School and had worked for Geisinger Medical Center as a microbiology and cytology lab assistant.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lewisburg, where she was president of First Women from 1997 to 1998, served on the board of deacons and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale and joined the PEO in November 2000 and was secretary from 2001 to 2004 and 2008 to 2009.

Diane enjoyed golf, sewing, crafts and having breakfast with close friends on Wednesday mornings and before Bible study. Diane and Jack reconfirmed their wedding vows on their 50th anniversary on June 16, 2001.

She is survived by three children, Constance Hampton and her partner, Isanna Palmer, of Oakland, Calif., John C. "Tad" Hampton III and his wife, Jane, of Dakar, Senegal, and Laura Spangler and her husband, Matthew, of Milton; eight grandchildren, Gretchen, Shawn and Sarah Pfeil, Anna Jackson, Allison and Jonathan Hampton, and Stephanie and Logan Spangler; one sister, Joanne Freund, of Dunwoody, Ga.; and a very close cousin, Christel Grate, of Oroville, Calif.

Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 18 Market St., Lewisburg, followed by a memorial service at 2 with her pastor, the Rev. James C. King, officiating.
