MILTON — Rudolph P. Ries, 92, of Skyview Drive, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Kramm Health and Rehab Center, Milton.
He was born Dec. 29, 1920, in Sunbury, a son of the late Rudolph H. and Francesca (Frank) Ries. He was married for 61 years to the former Helen Jean Hackenberg until her death on June 5, 2005.
Rudy was a 1939 graduate of the Sunbury High School and had served in the Army during World War II.
He had been employed by the First National Bank, Sunbury as head teller, Hackenberg Chevrolet, Milton and Haga Chevrolet, Milton as a salesman. He had retired from the Army Reserve as a captain.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 71, Milton, the F&AM Lodge 22, Sunbury, the Kiwanis Club, Milton, and a life member of the Sunbury Social Club.
Rudy enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his faithful dog, Katie.
He is survived by two daughters, Debra J. Cogan and her husband, Ross, of Milton, and Jacqueline R. Hopkins and her companion, William Hassenplug, of Milton; five grandchildren, Casey East, Ryan Cogan, Lindsey Metzger, Abbey Norton, and Peter Hopkins; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Noll of Northumberland.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Alfred Ries; and one sister, Pauline Whitenight.
Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton, followed by a memorial service at 11 with the Rev. Cheryl Berner officiating. Military honors will be held at the funeral home.
