TURBOTVILLE — Harry A. “Art” Bieber, 86, formerly of Turbotville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the Watsontown Health and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been living for two months.
He was born July 8, 1926, in Muncy, a son of the late Harry S. and Mary Susan (Raup) Bieber. On April 21, 1956, he married the former Shelva J. Fleming, and they celebrated 44 years of marriage before her death Nov. 4, 2000.
Art served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II.
Art worked many jobs throughout the years. Earlier in life, he worked at Philco, Watsontown, and then as a self-employed truck driver before going to work for Young Door Co. in Sunbury for six years. He also worked at Sprout Waldron and retired in 1989 after 22 years as a machinist. Art was a lifelong farmer in rural Turbotville with the best sweet corn and the biggest garden around.
He was a member of Watsontown American Legion Post 323.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, H. Randal and Sharon Bieber, of Winterville, N.C., and Jeffrey S. and Carolyn Bieber, of Turbotville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia J. and Melvin Betz, of Turbotville, Sandra J. Mullay, of Swoyersville, and Pamela S. and Charles Showers, of New Columbia; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice Bieber, of Proctor, and Howard Bieber, of Orangeville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, William A. Bieber; one grandson, Joshua Ryan Lenig; one son-in-law, Eugene A. Mullay; three sisters, Dorothy Bitler, Catherine Force and Thelma Painter; and four brothers, Emery, Walter, William and Herman Bieber.
Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the funeral at 11, at the Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, with Pastor John Lee officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Turbotville Cemetery.
