LEWISBURG — Marlin Jay Heintzelman, 93, formerly of Elmcroft and 3924 West Branch Highway for many years, passed away Saturday evening, Feb. 23, 2013, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
A native of Union County, he was a proud American and veteran, and a dedicated Christian born in Winfield, July 5, 1919, a son of the late John Milton and Leva (Oldt) Heintzelman. On Sept. 12, 1942, he married the former Lillie Bell Forbes who preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 2012.
Marlin was a graduate of Lewisburg High School with the class of 1938. A veteran of World War II, he served as a sergeant in the Army with the 178 MP Company, serving in Africa, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno campaigns.
He retired from the federal penitentiary in Lewisburg in 1978 as operating engineer of the power plant. He had previously been a millwright in Virginia and Pennsylvania and had been power plant engineer at Bucknell University.
He was the oldest living member of the Winfield Baptist Church, the oldest member of the Patriotic Order Sons of American, Winfield Camp, was a charter member of the Buffalo Rod and Gun Club, member of the Military Order of Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Buffalo Valley Sportsmen’s Association.
Marlin enjoyed hunting and was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts.
He is survived by two children and their spouses, Sandra Sue and William Prowant, and Jerry and Joanne Heintzelman, all of Lewisburg; three grandchildren, Tara and David Simmons, Gretchen Heintzelman and Miranda Eck; five great-grandchildren, Conner, Alex, Lillie, Gabrielle and Noah; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Betty Heintzelman, of Lewisburg; one sister, Betty Yuhasz, of Struthers, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, William D. Prowant IV in 1988; two sisters, Evelyn Zimmerman and Annabelle Klinger; and three brothers, John Edward, Richard and Mahlon Heintzelman.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Winfield Baptist Church, 350 Route 304, Winfield, followed by the funeral at 1 with the Rev. David Simmons officiating, assisted by Pastor Butch Woolsey.
Burial with military honors will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.
