LEWISBURG — Almeda H. Lenker, 95, of Lewisburg, formerly of Sunbury, passed away at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, where she was a resident for nearly eight years.
She was born May 15, 1917, in Worcester on the family farm, a daughter of the late J. Lyndale and Lillie ( Rothenberger) Hileman.
She graduated from Norristown High School in 1935 and the Pennsylvania State University in 1939.
Almeda married David H. Lenker on Dec. 2, 1942, in Hempstead, N.Y., where he was employed during World War II. He preceded her in death March 11, 1990.
She taught school at the Sunbury Junior and Senior High Schools and Trevorton High School for a time and then was a homemaker.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sunbury, where she was very active. She served as Worthy Matron in Chapter 266 Order of the Eastern Star. Sunbury and Worthy High Priestess of Messiah Shrine No. 44, Northumberland.
Almeda enjoyed sewing, knitting, crossword puzzles, gardening, and watching Penn State football games.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William D. and Kerry Lenker, of Sunbury; one grandson Mark H. Lenker and his wife, Sara, of Sunbury; two sisters and brother-in-law, Lois and David Bailey, of Harleysville, and Helen Thomas, of Palmdale, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lowell, Donald and Floyd.
Services will be private at the convenience of her family. The Rev. Richard Fangmann of her church will officiate and burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
