THOMPSONTOWN — The Rev. Maureen A. Wagner, 64, of Thompsontown, died at 5:53 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She went to be with her Lord and Savior who she taught and preached about passionately for years.
She was born Nov. 13, 1948, in Lewisburg, Union County, a daughter of Lera (Wenrich) Schaeffer, of Port Trevorton, and the late Mark Schaeffer. On Aug. 22, 1970, she married Robert W. Wagner, with whom she shared nearly 43 years of marriage.
Maureen was a 1966 graduate of Selinsgrove High School, a 1970 graduate of Bloomsburg University and received her administrative degree in education from Bucknell University.
She taught elementary school in the Selinsgrove Area School District for more than 20 years and also served as director of elementary education before entering the ministry.
After graduating from the Lancaster Theological Seminary, she served at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Mifflinburg, from 1995 to 1997. At the time of her death, she was serving the Thompsontown-Locust Run United Methodist Charge.
Maureen was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. She taught Sunday school for many years at Witmer’s United Methodist Church, Port Trevorton. She was a talented musician and played the violin, piano and organ. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a past president.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by one son, Nathaniel Robert Wagner, of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Linda Kniss and husband Tim, and one brother, Michael Schaeffer and wife Kathy, all of Port Trevorton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Thompsontown United Methodist Church, 544 W. Main St., Thompsontown, with district superintendent the Rev. Lori Steffenson and the Rev. Allen Hulslander officiating.
Interment will follow in Witmer’s Memorial Cemetery, Port Trevorton.
