BEAVER SPRINGS — Douglas M. Garrison, 88, of Railroad Avenue, passed away unexpectedly at 10:26 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013.
He was born Feb. 16, 1924, in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of the late Bela Griffin and Louise Charity (Mack) Garrison. In 1947, he married the former Ruth E. Scott) Garrison who survives.
Douglas attended Springville High School. After school he served in the Army during World War II in the European Theatre.
He was previously employed as a manager and milk inspector with the Dairymen’s League in Springville, Nicholson and Beaver Springs. He later owned and operated along with his wife and sons, D&R Transport Company
Douglas was very dedicated in serving as the Spring Township Supervisor from 1968 until the present.
He was a member of Beaver Lutheran Church, a member of the Beaver Springs Fire Company and Ambulance, a Boy Scout leader and member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a life member of the Beaver Springs American Legion Post 23 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5640, Middleburg.
Douglas enjoyed going to the flea market but the main love of his life was his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Jane Garrison, of Beavertown, Dave and Yvonne Garrison, of Mifflintown and Lawrence and Cindy Garrison, of Beaver Springs; one daughter, Kaylene Luse, of Ft. Meyer’s, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Doug, Deana, Robyn, Nicki, Eric, Aaron, Jeannette, Laurie and Jodi; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Ward and Beatrice Cox.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Lee, Louis, Bill, Donald, Benton, Bruce and Lawrence Garrison, and two sisters, Ruby Johnson and Bonnie Tewksbury.
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11a.m. Wednesday, followed by the funeral at 11, at Beaver Lutheran Church with the Rev. Nathan Baker-Trinity officiating.
Burial with military honors accorded by the Midwest Veterans Council will be in Adamsburg Cemetery, Beaver Springs.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Douglas’ memory may be made to the Spring Township Park Fund, P.O. Box 12, Beaver Springs, PA 17812.
Arrangements are by the Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown.
