MIDDLEBURG — Virginia W. “Jut” Gill, 91, formerly of Paxtonville Road, Middleburg, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at 6:20 p.m. at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove, with family by her side.
She was born in Paxtonville on Feb. 26, 1921, a daughter of the late Reuben and Mary (Bruner) Weirick. After her mother’s death during the flu epidemic, she was raised by her Uncle Ike and Aunt Lib and her grandmother Sallie Bruner, whom she greatly admired.
She attended Paxtonville schools. In 1950, she married Arthur A. “Usher” Gill who preceded her in death in 1997.
Jut was employed at the Middleburg Silk Mill and later at the Selinsgrove Center from where she retired.
Her hobbies included embroidery, caring for her home, bingo, slot machines, reading, and her miniature toy poodles. In 2011, after a hip fracture, she resided at Grayson View, Selinsgrove. She enjoyed her home away from home and the skilled caretakers there. Whenever possible, she and her Jazzie were on the bingo scene.
In recent weeks, with failing health, she became a resident at the Manor at Penn Village. The staff was remarkable and they along with the Hospice team were angels of mercy, especially Tony.
Family was important to Jut. Jason and Ginny Bruner’s son once asked her how they were related, and she responded with “I am Aunt Jut” and that’s all that mattered.
Her remaining family consisted of Dorothy Ettinger, Julie Crissman, Wayne Ettinger, Pat Boyer, Gene Bruner, Sally and Teej Trinchera, Dianne Weikel, Toni Kemble, Jerry A. Bruner, Robin Camp, Jason, Ginny, Ross and Reed Bruner, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her only brother, Cera “Mike” Weirick, who she lovingly cared for and adored; and a special nephew, Jerry O. Bruner who she helped raise from a youngster and his wife Vivian.
Friends and family will be received from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 2 with the Rev. William D. Jones officiating.
Burial will be in the Paxtonville Cemetery.
