Ralph A. Smith, 93, Middleburg

MIDDLEBURG — Ralph A. Smith, 93, of 3328 Troxelville Road, went to be with Jesus at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Middleburg, a son of the late Clem and Ellen (Walter) Smith. On April 29, 1938, he married Grace Kratzer. Upon her death, he married Pearl Noble on May 14, 1988, and upon her death, he married Rachel Frey on Oct. 11, 2003, who survives.

Ralph was a foreman at Philco Ford; and he also worked at Yorktowne Kitchens and Ritz-Craft Corporation. He enjoyed farming in his spare time.

He attended Wayside Bible Church and Port Ann Wesleyan Church.

Earlier in life he was an avid hunter and trapper; he also enjoyed raising foxes and having a “pet” raccoon.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert and wife Lisa Jo and David Smith, of Middleburg; two daughters, Lovetta Boyer, of Mifflinburg and Nancy Moyer, of Penns Creek; 10 grandchildren, Christy Keller and Charlynn and Carson Herman, all of Penns Creek, Chris Boyer, of Middleburg, Michael and Liz Boyer, of Shamokin Dam, Curt and Sheila Smith, of Bonifay, Fla., Steven Smith, Mark Smith, Karen Smith, and Ryan and Ruth Smith, all of Middleburg, and Rebecca Smith, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 13 great-grandchildren, Casey Wagner, of Bloomsburg, Katelin and Zachery Boyer, of Middleburg; Teneka, Nick, Nathan, Dakota and Drisanna Smith, Cassie Boyer Barge, of Selinsgrove, Kevin and Joshua Smith and Isaac Hile, Brittany Chubb, of Selinsgrove; and two great-great-grandchildren, Blake Barge and Mileah Smith; three stepdaughters, Linda Camp, of McAlisterville, Roxie Hughes, of Liverpool, and Doreen Pyle, of Ellenton, Fla.; and two brothers, Milford Smith, of Middleburg and Willard Smith, of Winfield.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Courtney Chubb; three sisters, Mary Heimbach, Cathrine Reich, and Faye Lytle; and three brothers, Ezra, Herman, and Alvin Smith.

Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Port Ann Wesleyan Church, Troxelville Road, Middleburg, where the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Paul Sheets officiating.

Burial will follow in Hummel’s United Methodist Church Cemetery, Middleburg.
