Jennie E. Byers, 78, Sunbury

SUNBURY — Jennie E. Byers, 78, of Sunbury, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, in Sunbury Community Hospital.

She was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Oliver and Bertha (Bower) Ressler. On May 26, 1955, she married Victor N. Byers Sr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2006.

Jennie was employed by Grant’s Department Store, Newberry’s and Varias’ Restaurant before becoming a homemaker.

She was a lifetime member and volunteer at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sunbury.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Victor N. Byers Jr. and Diana and Ronald Long Sr., all of Sunbury, Richard A. Byers, of New Columbia, and Robert W. Sr. and Jacklyn Byers, of Northumberland; grandchildren, Melissa and Jason Reed Sr., Michelle Russell, Theresa and Roger Hilbert Sr., Sherri and Dean Straight Jr., Tracy Mull and companion Sam Snyder, Stephanie Byers, Pammy Rice and companion Matthew Liddick, Wendy Byers, James Byers, Richard Long, Robert Jr. and Amanda Rice and Ronald Jr. and his wife, Krista Smith; great-grandchildren, Cody Hilbert, Roger Hilbert Jr., Kevin Tressler, Mercedes Hilbert, Dominic Long, Natasha Rice, Owen Rice, Tyler Rice, Chase Long, Kelsey Long, Jason Reed Jr., Alex Spade, Shawn Spade Jr., Richard Mull Jr., Nathan Mull, Christopher Byers, Dean Straight III, Christi Straight, Rebecca Russell and Bentley Liddick; one sister, Mary Sortman; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Ressler; one grandson, Robert W. Byers Jr.; one granddaughter, Kelly Spade; one daughter-in-law, Betty J. Shemory; and one great-granddaughter, Porschia L. Hilbert.

Friends will be received from noon to 12:55 Saturday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 1 with Pastor Calvin Miller, of Bellefonte, officiating.

Interment will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
