DANVILLE — Kenneth S. Warmkessel, 82, of McCracken Road, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Danville, a son of the late Benjamin and Christine (Woolcock) Warmkessel.
Ken proudly served in the Marines during the Korean War. After his service, he graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a master’s degree in music education.
Ken taught for more than 37 years in the Danville School District.
He was a strong family man and a lifetime member of Mahoning Presbyterian Church as well as a lifetime member of the Masons.
He was involved in numerous area bands. He was director of the Danville American Legion Band for several years; played in the Mal Arter Orchestra, Seasons Sounds, Sunbury City Band, Irem Temple Band and Dansbachers; and taught music lessons to many area children. Music was Ken’s life.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, the former Belle Wademan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Teresa, of Bath, and Mark and Melissa, of Maryland; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Mark Freeze, of Danville, Sherry and Greg Rosenberry, of Chambersburg, and Jennifer and John Taylor, of Allentown; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Kathy, of Florida; and one sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Dino Cantelmi, of Bethlehem.
Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Mahoning Presbyterian Church, 106 E. Mahoning St., Danville, followed by the funeral at 11 with his pastor, the Rev. Graham Rodgers, officiating.
Burial will follow in Straub’s Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will provide flowers. Contributions in Ken’s memory may be made to the Danville High School Music Department, 600 Walnut St., Danville, PA 17821.
