NEW BLOOMFIELD — Marlin E. “Moody” “Dirty Duck” Hile, 83, of New Bloomfield, formerly of Mount Pleasant Mills, entered into rest on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the Manor at Perry Village, New Bloomfield.
He was born May 22, 1929, in Krazterville, a son of the late Phenie and Beulah (Kratzer) Hile. He was married to the former Nancy Ferry who preceded him on March 2, 1989.
He attended Locust Grove and Houtz grammar schools. Marlin was a Army Air Corps and Air Force veteran. He served after World War II and later during the Korean War, serving in England and Germany. He was very proud to have marched in the first Air Force parade at Bowling Field in Washington, D.C.
Marlin was employed with the Pennsylvania Railroad, Van Dyke Brick Company, Central Steel, various road construction companies, and retired after 23 years of service from Poloron Homes as a truck driver.
“Moody” as he was known by everyone, was a member of the Oriental Sportsman Club, the Liverpool American Legion Post 364, the Home Association of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5640, Middleburg, the Freeburg Fire Company, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1229, Middleburg, and a lifetime member of the Kreamer Fire Company. “Moody” provided transportation for the local Mennonite community.
He enjoyed fishing, and playing the lottery.
Moody is survived by one daughter, Catherine S. Murphy, of Newport; three grandchildren, Yvonne Moyer and husband, Steve, Sheri Murphy, and Jackie Murphy; five great-grandchildren, Cody, Adam, Aron, Ashleigh, and Lexie; one brother, Jim “Pickle” Hile, of Mount Pleasant Mills; one sister, Dorothy Swartz, of Mifflintown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by one son-in-law, Emory “Jack” Murphy; one sister-in-law, Ethel “Sis” Hile; and two brothers and their spouses, Lester G. and Esther Hile, and Warren A. and Anna Mae Hile.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., and from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, followed by the funeral at 2, at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, with Pastor George A. Swartz officiating.
Burial with full military honors accorded by the Selinsgrove American Legion Victory Post 25 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631 will be made in Daniel’s Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills.
