Adam R. Cook Jr., 80, Northumberland

NORTHUMBERLAND — Adam R. Cook Jr., 80, of Northumberland, formerly of Sunbury and Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

He was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Sunbury, a son of the late Adam R. and Violet Cook. On May 16, 1953, he married the former Betty Jane Hare, who preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 2011.

Adam served in the Navy, and after the service and his marriage to Betty, they moved to Maryland, where Adam was employed by the Maryland Specialty Wire Co. After retirement, they moved back to Sunbury about 2005.

Adam and Betty enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City. He was a Phillies baseball fan and a member of the Sunbury Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary E. Hyatt, of Fawn Grove; three grandchildren and their spouses, John L. and Carissa, Tina M. and Jason Hyatt and A.L. and Lauren; two great-grandchildren, Constance and Zachery; one nephew; three nieces; and three sisters-in-law, Josephine Fausey, Rachal Poff and Rose Allabaugh.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Hester, and one brother, Bobby.

Adam requested to be cremated, and the family will be gathering privately at a later date for a memorial service. His remains will be entombed in Pomfret Manor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Adam’s memory may be made to the Sunbury VFW, Shikellamy Avenue, Sunbury, PA 17801.
