MIDDLEBURG — Mary A. Millhouse Stock, 85, went to her heavenly resting place on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012.
Mary was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Milheim, a daughter of the late Stanley and Jenny (Benner) Millhouse. Mary married Dorr W. Stock Jr. and resided in Middleburg, where they raised four children, Robert, Susan, Jerry and David. She had seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren including twins due in February. Her family meant the world to her.
Mary was an accomplished classical pianist. During high school she played for all school musical groups. For many years she accompanied the community Woman’s Club Christmas Cantata. She studied with Julia Thompson Benfer and performed several shared recitals. Her faith was a very important part of her life. For many years she served as Sunday school superintendent, church pianist/organist and sang in the UCC choir.
She attended Middleburg High School and the Harrisburg Beauty Academy resulting in a very successful 39 year career as a self-employed beautician in Middleburg. She was a member of the Hairdresser’s Association and instrumental in continuing education for local beauticians. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Middleburg Women’s Club. She was an avid seamstress and loved painting, gardening and cooking.
Mary will be lovingly missed by her family, Robert and Phyllis Stock, Michael and Hadley, Brantley, Amelia, Christopher and Jacqueline Stock; Susan and Darrell McDowell; Jerry and Connie Stock, Michelle and Calvin Knepp, Andrew, Isaac, Luke, Adam Stock, Deanna Stock, Kristin and Ty Aumiller, Colton, Preston; David Stockand Rebecca Vanhorn and Darcy Stock; and her younger brother, Richard Millhouse.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 2, 2012, and older brother, Howard Millhouse.
A memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the First United Church of Christ, 42 Route 522 North, Middleburg with the Rev. Joseph Lingenfelter officiating.
Private burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, Middleburg.
