LEWISBURG — Judy Irene Yoder, 54, of Sleepy Hollow Lane, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at her residence after a short intense battle with cancer.
She was born Nov. 3, 1958, in Richfield, a daughter of James and the late Miriam (Brubaker) Kauffman. She was married on Oct. 27, 1984, and was the faithful and loving wife of Joseph A. Yoder for 28 years and 14 days.
Judy grew up in a conservative Mennonite family, attended Millmont Mennonite Church and graduated from Pennview Bible Institute in 1976. In her young adult life, she taught both grammar and Sunday school. In the early 1980s, Judy volunteered for two years at the Northern Youth Program in Northern Ontario. After being married she became involved in the Buffalo Mennonite Church where she established many lifetime friendships, taught adult Sunday school and started the women’s ministry programs all while raising and nurturing four young children. Judy traveled and was involved in her husband’s business ventures of developing tomato and pepper harvesters. This eventually led her to move to California for three years where she met many friends at Dinuba Mennonite Brethren Church.
Upon the death of her sister in early 2000, she took into her home and existing home school program, two of her nephews for four years. Throughout this time, her faith in God was further deepened with her involvement in the Hebrew roots movement. Judy loved to worship her creator in dance, flags, raising her hands and singing; truly wanting to please the God of heaven and earth. Her testimony is one of faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, which took her from Genesis to Revelations, there, she learned more about Messiah Yeshua, the King of Israel establishing his throne in Jerusalem and the importance of Israel in the latter days. This led to one last family trip to Israel in the last days of her life. Her laughter, smiles, singing and wit will be missed by many. Judy was a Proverbs 31 woman, pursuing excellence in all she did. She loved many and many loved her.
Surviving in addition to her father and husband are one son, C. Shane Yoder; three daughters, Alonda, Charity and Andrea Yoder, all of Lewisburg; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Sue Kauffman, of Ulster, Gerald and Joann Kauffman, of Mifflinburg and Don and Chris Kauffman, of Millmont; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Carol and Merl Yoder, of Bittinger, Md., and Brent and Isadora Herrick, of Richfield.
In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Herrick.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Buffalo Mennonite Church, 4445 Hoffa Mill Road, Lewisburg.
