MILTON — After courageously battling cancer for more than 10 years, Ann Louise Smith, 76, of Milton, passed peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at her home and went to be with her Lord.
She was born Sept. 18, 1936, in Hughesville, a daughter of Charles and Edna (Richart) Eichenlaub.
She graduated from Hughesville High School in 1954 and was married to Charles N. Smith on July 3, 1954, at Moreland Community Church by the Rev. Clay Reed. Charles and Ann met at a church youth meeting of the two churches pastored by the Rev. Reed. Ann was a member of White Hall Baptist Church for 58 years.
Charles and Ann lived and raised their family in the White Hall and Exchange area for more than 40 years. Ann was head cook at Warrior Run High School for nine years and then worked as chief clerk of Montour County. She next worked for 10 years at GTE Sylvania, Montoursville. When Sylvania closed, Ann purchased and operated the Muncy Pastry Shop for five years. After retiring from the pastry business, she continued cooking and baking for all of her friends, neighbors and family, to their great delight.
She served on the Montour County Planning Commission and was actively involved in county politics. While her children were growing up, she was an active leader in the church youth group.
Ann loved and will be dearly missed by her family. Ann and Charles were married for 58 years. They had a partnership of total love, devotion, friendship and caring.
One of Ann’s greatest pleasures was cooking and baking for others. She was an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and games.
Ann is survived by her husband, Charles N. Smith; one son and daughter-in-law, Doane Kim and Dana Smith, of Oxford, Ala.; one daughter and son-in-law, Dena K. Smith-Reichley and Kim Reichley, of Lewisburg; three grandchildren, Tara Balliet and her husband, Dan, Todd Smith and Austin Smith; one great-granddaughter, Larissa D.J. Balliet; one sister, Georgine Johnson, of Hughesville; sister-in law, Linda Eichenlaub, of Hughesville; brother-in-law and sister-in law, Wayne and Pearl Smith, of Danville; numerous nieces and nephews; and Norma Confer, thought of as a sister.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Eichenlaub; an infant brother, Charles Eichenlaub; and her lifelong best friend, Joyce Burkhart.
As per Ann’s wishes, there will be no visitation, funeral or memorial services.
Anyone wishing to make contributions in Ann’s memory may do so at the American Cancer Society, East Central Division, Central Susquehanna Division, P.O. Box 3125, Williamsport, PA 177014-0125, or to White Hall Baptist Church, 945 White Hall Road, Danville, PA 17821, or to Susquehanna Home Care and Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
