ELYSBURG — George “Geno” Bidelspach, 73, of 998 W. Valley Ave., passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Nov. 24, 1939, in Sunbury, a son of the late George A. and Hannah R. (Benner) Bidelspach. On Dec. 2, 1967, in Clarks Grove United Methodist Church, he married the former Lucille A. Hockenbroch who survives.
Geno was a 1957 graduate of Sunbury High School and served in the Army, stationed in Korea.
He worked in construction for many years, but most recently worked and retired from Ott Packaging, Selinsgrove.
Geno was a lifelong member of the Americus Hose Company, Sunbury. After moving to Elysburg in the early 70s,he joined the Elysburg Fire Department and continued to help the community into his retirement. He served and supported the fire company for decades, both as a first responder and through functions and fundraising activities such as the annual Haunted House, Palm Sunday breakfast and bingo. He looked forward to helping with the All Home Days Veterans’ Tribute in Elysburg every year.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Donald Rouse, of Sunbury; one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Diane (Gibbs) Bidelspach, of Myerstown; five beloved grandchildren, James, Emily and Julia Bidelspach, and Cooper and Wesley Rouse; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry “Sam” and Linnea Bidelspach, of Sunbury; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Phyllis and Carl Clark, of Paxinos, Joanne Hockenbroch, of Sunbury, Bimmie and Judy Strausser, Carl Crowl, Joyce Rumberger and Marion Hockenbroch, of Elysburg; and many nieces and nephews who were very dear to him.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Elysburg United Methodist Church, 171 W. Center St., Elysburg, followed by a celebration of Geno’s life with a memorial service at 11.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Geno’s memory may be made to Elysburg Fire Dept., 1 E. Mill St., Elysburg, PA 17824, or Elysburg United Methodist Church, 171 W. Center St., Elysburg, PA 17824.
