LEWISBURG — Alvin Delmar Gottshall, 88, of 7 N. Aspen Place for nine years, formerly of West Cameron, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village Nursing Home, Lewisburg, where he was a guest for four months.
He was born Oct. 30, 1924, in West Cameron Township, the son of the late Harvey and Della (Kerstetter) Gottshall. On Nov. 26, 1947, he married the former Shirley E. Ticknor, who preceded him in death on April 12, 2010.
Alvin attended West Cameron schools and was in the Navy for 2½ years, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS ROI in the South Pacific during World War II.
He retired as a quality assurance inspector with the federal government, having worked at Olmstead Air Force Base, Middletown, and Kennedy Van Saun, Danville. He also worked as a clerk at state liquor stores in Shamokin and Sunbury.
He was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, West Cameron, where he served many years on the church council, was treasurer and helped with numerous projects. He was a member of Trevorton American Legion Post 92 and Woodmen of the World.
Alvin was a lifetime fan of the Phillies, Eagles and 76ers.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Randy Rebuck, of Halifax, and two granddaughters, Megan Rebuck and Taryn Millette and husband Geoff.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Knarr and Gladys Kerstetter.
A visitation with the family will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Frederick Faust officiating.
Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alvin’s memory may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 1910 Upper Road, Shamokin, PA 17872.
