NORTHUMBERLAND — Charles E. Beaver, 86, of Old Danville Highway, passed away early Friday, March 8, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Lewisburg, a son of the late J. Fred and Clara (Harmon) Beaver. On Feb. 19, 1949, he married the former Ann M. Carroll, who survives.
Charles was a 1944 graduate of Lewisburg High School. On Sept. 8, 1944, he entered the Navy serving on the U.S.S. LST 1050, until his honorable discharge on July 2, 1946, with the rank of Radarman.
He was employed by Weis Markets, Sunbury and retired as the produce manager after many years of service.
Mr. Beaver was a member of the American Legion Post 44. He enjoyed playing cards with the neighborhood guys and golfing at the Sunny Hill Golf Course where he shot five Holes-in-one.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda M. and Warren Frantz, Terry A. and Jim C. Specht, and Paula C. Beaver, all of Northumberland, and Janet L. and Gary R. Trimmer of Aspers; two sons, Doug Beaver and Fred E. Beaver, both of Northumberland; nine grandchildren and spouses, Melissa and Mark Garinger, Chad and Katrina Frantz, Craig and Penny Heintzelman, Brian and Jill Heintzelman, Doug Beaver, Dustin and Amber Beaver, Brittany Beaver, Mikayla Trimmer and Sydney Trimmer; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Beverly Wetzel, of Lewisburg.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Beaver.
Friends and family may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland, where the funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wendle R. Lahr officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 44, Northumberland.
