Walter H. Clemens, 84, York

YORK — Walter H. Clemens, 84, of York, formerly of Milton, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was a son of the late Floyd and Ella Mae (Halteman) Clemens. He was the loving husband of Mary (Landis) Clemens, and they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year.

Walter had several careers, including working as a farmer, real estate agent, pastor and, after retirement, as a caretaker of a York estate.

He enjoyed spending the last 20 winters in Arcadia, Fla., at Sunnybreeze Christian Fellowship, where he was a worship leader and where he and Mary developed many special friendships and enjoyed time on the Peace River. His hobbies included wood carving, completing puzzles and playing games. He was devoted to his wife and family above all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children and seven grandchildren, Ronald Landis Clemens and his wife, Holly, of Lititz, and their two sons, Jared and Adam Clemens; Douglas Kent Clemens and his wife, Tonie Kline, of Baltimore, Md., and their three children, Julia, Eli and Conrad Clemens; and LeAnne Clemens Appleby and her husband, Michael, of York, and their two sons, Matthew and Benjamin Appleby. Walter was the oldest of seven children and is survived by Ada Clemens Allen, of Philadelphia, Mary Clemens Martin, of Lititz, Arlene Clemens, of Camas, Wash., and Paul H. Clemens, of Souderton.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Landis Clemens and Walter Brent Clemens; one sister, Martha Clemens; and one brother, Floyd “Gus” Clemens Jr.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Stony Brook Mennonite Church, 15 Locust Grove Road, York, followed by a memorial service at 11:30.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Walter’s memory may be made to Sunnybreeze Christian Fellowship, c/o Sharon Schrock, 11302 SW Orange Ave., Arcadia, FL 34269.
